Air source heat pump installation for Kendal homes

In Kendal, as anywhere in the UK, the heat pumps that perform well are the ones designed around low flow temperatures and sized from a proper heat loss calculation.

In Kendal, cylinder space is planned with you, often in an airing cupboard, utility room or garage. Installers working in Kendal plan the order of work so heating and hot water are off for as short a time as practical.

We survey your home, design a heat pump system around its real heat loss, and manage the installation from the first visit to the MCS certificate.

  • Owners and landlords in England and Wales eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
  • Homes replacing a gas, oil, LPG or electric heating system
  • Houses with reasonable insulation, or a plan to improve it

What's included

  • Radiator and pipework changes where the design needs them
  • Outdoor unit, hot water cylinder and weather compensation controls
  • Commissioning, handover and a walk-through of the controls
  • System design, unit sizing and a written quote
  • MCS registration and certificate, plus network operator notification

Terraced streets in Kendal often mean a compact unit position at the rear, so siting and sound levels are checked carefully.

Grants and rules for heat pumps in England

England

In England the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump (£9,000 if it replaces oil or LPG, from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027), and since 28 April 2026 a valid EPC is no longer needed. The grant is applied for by the MCS-certified installer and shown as a deduction on your Kendal quote.

There is no VAT on installing a heat pump anywhere in the UK until 31 March 2027. In England most houses can have an air source heat pump under permitted development, provided the unit meets the MCS noise and siting standards; the old 1 m boundary limit was removed on 29 May 2025. We flag listed buildings, flats and sensitive conservation-area positions at survey.

Short winter days in Kendal and what they mean

7 h 18 minDaylight on the shortest day
17 h 13 minDaylight on the longest day
12°Noon sun height in December
54.33°NLatitude of Kendal

How installation works in Kendal

  1. Tell us about your home: postcode, property type and current heating.
  2. We book a survey in Kendal; the surveyor measures rooms, windows and radiators and looks at cylinder space.
  3. The design and quote arrive in writing, including radiator changes and the outdoor unit position.
  4. On installation days the old system is removed and the new one fitted and filled.
  5. We commission the heat pump, show you the controls and register the installation.

Air source heat pump installation in Kendal: questions

Do I need new radiators for a heat pump in Kendal?

Often some, not all. Heat pumps run best at lower water temperatures, so rooms with small radiators may need larger ones. The survey of your Kendal home gives a room-by-room list.

Where would the outdoor unit go on a Kendal house?

Usually at the side or rear, on a level base with space around it for airflow and servicing, away from bedroom windows where possible. The surveyor checks positions at your Kendal home.

How long does a heat pump survey take in Kendal?

A home survey in Kendal usually takes one to two hours. The surveyor measures every heated room, checks windows, walls and radiators, and looks at where the outdoor unit and cylinder can go.

What grants can I get for a heat pump?

It depends on where you live. In England and Wales the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water heat pump, which the installer claims and deducts from your quote. In Scotland, Home Energy Scotland offers a grant of up to £7,500, with up to £1,500 more for eligible rural and island homes, but you need a written funding offer before work starts. Northern Ireland has no dedicated homeowner heat pump grant at present.

Can I cancel after accepting the quote?

Nothing is ordered until you accept the written quote. Where the contract is agreed away from our premises, for example at your kitchen table, you can cancel within 14 days under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. If you ask us to start sooner and then cancel, you pay only for work done up to that point.
