Heat pump grants for Sudbury homes

In Sudbury, as anywhere in the UK, the heat pumps that perform well are the ones designed around low flow temperatures and sized from a proper heat loss calculation.

Across Sudbury and Suffolk, the paperwork for funding applications is prepared alongside your quote. For landlords with property in Sudbury, we explain the funding position for each home before quoting.

Heat pump funding depends on which UK nation you live in, so we confirm what applies to your home and handle the grant steps alongside your quote.

  • Homeowners in England and Wales replacing gas, oil, LPG or electric heating

Grants and rules for heat pumps in England

England

In England the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump (£9,000 if it replaces oil or LPG, from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027), and since 28 April 2026 a valid EPC is no longer needed. The grant is applied for by the MCS-certified installer and shown as a deduction on your Sudbury quote.

Installing heat pumps is zero-rated for VAT across the UK until 31 March 2027. Since 29 May 2025, permitted development in England allows up to two air source heat pumps on a house, each up to 1.5 m³, with no blanket 1 m boundary rule — the installation must still meet the MCS planning standards, including the noise check. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation-area positions need extra consent, which we check at survey.

Designing for Sudbury's winters

7 h 44 minDaylight on the shortest day
16 h 44 minDaylight on the longest day
15°Noon sun height in December
52.04°NLatitude of Sudbury

On the shortest day Sudbury gets about 7 hours 44 minutes of daylight, with the noon sun around 15° up. The heating season runs from autumn into spring, so a heat pump that is sized correctly and set up with weather compensation does most of its work in steady, cool conditions.

How installation works in Sudbury

  1. Tell us about your home: postcode, property type and current heating.
  2. We book a survey in Sudbury; the surveyor measures rooms, windows and radiators and looks at cylinder space.
  3. The design and quote arrive in writing, including radiator changes and the outdoor unit position.
  4. On installation days the old system is removed and the new one fitted and filled.
  5. We commission the heat pump, show you the controls and register the installation.

Heat pump grants in Sudbury: questions

Where would the outdoor unit go on a Sudbury house?

Usually at the side or rear, on a level base with space around it for airflow and servicing, away from bedroom windows where possible. The surveyor checks positions at your Sudbury home.

How long does installation take in Sudbury?

Most installations take 2–4 days on site. Jobs with several radiator changes or new pipework take longer, and your quote for a Sudbury home states the expected time.

Do you cover Halstead as well as Sudbury?

Yes. We arrange surveys and installation in Halstead, which is about 8 miles south-west of Sudbury, and across Suffolk.

Who applies for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

In England and Wales, the MCS-certified installer applies to Ofgem for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme on your behalf, and the grant is deducted from your quote. Ofgem then contacts you as the property owner to confirm the details. Your quote names the MCS-certified installer for your job, so you know who is making the application.

Do I need an EPC for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

No longer. Since 28 April 2026, a valid EPC is not required for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme in England and Wales. The system must still meet the home's full heating and hot water needs, which the room-by-room heat loss calculation confirms. The other eligibility rules, such as owning the property, still apply.
