Heat pump radiators for Wimbledon homes
A heat pump suits most Wimbledon homes, but the details decide how efficiently it runs. Our survey looks at insulation, radiators and hot water use room by room.
Extensions and kitchen-diners around Wimbledon with large glazed areas get their own radiator calculation. In Wimbledon, bay-windowed front rooms are often the rooms that need a larger radiator when moving to a heat pump.
We size each radiator to your room-by-room heat loss so a heat pump can heat your home at a low, efficient flow temperature.
- Rooms that already feel slow to heat, such as bay-windowed living rooms
- Homes switching from a gas, oil or LPG boiler to a heat pump
- Rooms with little wall space, where a fan-assisted radiator fits better
What's included
- Pipework checks and any agreed pipe upgrades
- Room-by-room heat loss figures for every heated room
- Draining, refilling, cleaning and inhibitor treatment of the heating system
- Making good around brackets and pipe routes, with any decorating agreed in your quote
- Supply and fitting of new radiators, valves and brackets
Radiator fitting in Wimbledon is scheduled with your heat pump installation so the system is drained only once.
Grants and rules for heat pumps in England
In England the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump (£9,000 if it replaces oil or LPG, from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027), and since 28 April 2026 a valid EPC is no longer needed. The grant is applied for by the MCS-certified installer and shown as a deduction on your Wimbledon quote.
Installing heat pumps is zero-rated for VAT across the UK until 31 March 2027. Since 29 May 2025, permitted development in England allows up to two air source heat pumps on a house, each up to 1.5 m³, with no blanket 1 m boundary rule — the installation must still meet the MCS planning standards, including the noise check. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation-area positions need extra consent, which we check at survey.
What to budget for heat pump radiator upgrades in Wimbledon
Guide prices for Wimbledon and the rest of Greater London are shown below, installed and inc VAT. We publish ranges rather than a single figure because design details move the price, and the written quote after survey fixes it.
| Work | Guide price |
|---|---|
| Replacement radiator, sized for a heat pump (each, fitted) | £280–£500 |
| Upgrade of about 10 radiators | £2,250–£5,600 |
| Pipework upgrade (e.g. microbore to larger bore) | £1,700–£3,900 |
Installed, inc VAT. The survey lists which radiators need changing.
How long is the heating season in Wimbledon?
On the shortest day Wimbledon gets about 7 hours 50 minutes of daylight, and the winter sun reaches only around 15° above the horizon at noon. Winters this far south are milder than in most of the UK, which helps a heat pump run at low flow temperatures for much of the season.

Heat pump radiator upgrades in Wimbledon: questions
How long does a heat pump survey take in Wimbledon?
A home survey in Wimbledon usually takes one to two hours. The surveyor measures every heated room, checks windows, walls and radiators, and looks at where the outdoor unit and cylinder can go.
Where would the outdoor unit go on a Wimbledon house?
Usually at the side or rear, on a level base with space around it for airflow and servicing, away from bedroom windows where possible. The surveyor checks positions at your Wimbledon home.
How soon can you survey a home in Wimbledon?
Survey dates depend on how busy installers are in Greater London. We offer the next available dates when you enquire and confirm them in writing.
Do I need new radiators for a heat pump?
Not necessarily: many homes keep most of their radiators and replace only a few. The heat loss survey checks each room against its existing radiator at the planned flow temperature. Rooms with large windows, high ceilings or extensions are the usual candidates for an upgrade, while bedrooms often need no change. Your radiator schedule lists every decision.
Are fan-assisted radiators noisy?
Fan-assisted radiators make a low, steady fan sound when running at higher output, and many have quieter settings for bedrooms at night. They are useful where wall space is short, such as a kitchen with few clear walls. They need a small electrical supply, which we plan into the installation if you choose them.
