Heat pump radiators for Sale homes
A heat pump suits most Sale homes, but the details decide how efficiently it runs. Our survey looks at insulation, radiators and hot water use room by room.
For period homes in Sale and across Greater Manchester, column radiators can keep the character of a room while giving enough heat at low temperatures. Extensions and kitchen-diners around Sale with large glazed areas get their own radiator calculation.
We size each radiator to your room-by-room heat loss so a heat pump can heat your home at a low, efficient flow temperature.
- Rooms that already feel slow to heat, such as bay-windowed living rooms
- Rooms with little wall space, where a fan-assisted radiator fits better
- Extensions and loft conversions with large areas of glazing
What's included
- Pipework checks and any agreed pipe upgrades
- Balancing every radiator so each room heats evenly
- Supply and fitting of new radiators, valves and brackets
- Draining, refilling, cleaning and inhibitor treatment of the heating system
- A radiator schedule showing which radiators stay, which change and their outputs
Radiator fitting in Sale is scheduled with your heat pump installation so the system is drained only once.
Grants and rules for heat pumps in England
Homes in Sale can use the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which takes £7,500 off the cost of an air source heat pump when it replaces fossil-fuel or electric heating. Replacing oil or LPG heating qualifies for £9,000 for installations from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027, and air-to-air systems for £2,500. The MCS-certified installer named in your quote applies for the grant and deducts it from the price.
There is no VAT on installing a heat pump anywhere in the UK until 31 March 2027. In England most houses can have an air source heat pump under permitted development, provided the unit meets the MCS noise and siting standards; the old 1 m boundary limit was removed on 29 May 2025. We flag listed buildings, flats and sensitive conservation-area positions at survey.

Heat pump radiator upgrades in Sale: questions
Where would the outdoor unit go on a Sale house?
Usually at the side or rear, on a level base with space around it for airflow and servicing, away from bedroom windows where possible. The surveyor checks positions at your Sale home.
Do I need new radiators for a heat pump in Sale?
Often some, not all. Heat pumps run best at lower water temperatures, so rooms with small radiators may need larger ones. The survey of your Sale home gives a room-by-room list.
What size heat pump does a Sale home need?
It depends on the heat loss, not the postcode. As a rough guide, a 3 bedroom semi often needs 6–9 kW, but the room-by-room survey sets the actual size for your Sale home.
Will new radiators be much bigger than my old ones?
Sometimes, but not always. Swapping a single-panel radiator for a double or triple-panel model of the same height and width can raise output substantially, adding only depth from the wall. Where that is not enough, a longer or taller radiator, or a second radiator in the room, may be needed. We agree sizes and positions with you before anything is ordered.
Can radiators be changed without draining the whole system?
Radiator changes normally mean draining the heating system, which is why they are usually done as part of the heat pump installation. The system is then refilled, flushed, treated with inhibitor and balanced. Doing the radiators at the same time avoids draining twice and means the new radiators are commissioned with the heat pump.
