Heat pump radiators for Inverness homes
Homes around Inverness range from older terraces to newer estates, and each needs a different design. That is why we survey before we quote.
For period homes in Inverness and across the Highlands and Islands, column radiators can keep the character of a room while giving enough heat at low temperatures. In Inverness, bay-windowed front rooms are often the rooms that need a larger radiator when moving to a heat pump.
We size each radiator to your room-by-room heat loss so a heat pump can heat your home at a low, efficient flow temperature.
- Homes switching from a gas, oil or LPG boiler to a heat pump
- Homeowners who want the lowest practical flow temperature for efficiency
- Rooms with little wall space, where a fan-assisted radiator fits better
What's included
- Draining, refilling, cleaning and inhibitor treatment of the heating system
- Making good around brackets and pipe routes, with any decorating agreed in your quote
- Pipework checks and any agreed pipe upgrades
- Room-by-room heat loss figures for every heated room
- A radiator schedule showing which radiators stay, which change and their outputs
Radiator fitting in Inverness is scheduled with your heat pump installation so the system is drained only once.
Grants and rules for heat pumps in Scotland
In Scotland, heat pump funding comes through Home Energy Scotland rather than the Boiler Upgrade Scheme: a grant of up to £7,500 (up to £1,500 extra for eligible rural and island homes) and an optional interest-free loan of up to £7,500. For an Inverness home, apply and receive the written offer before the installation date is fixed.
There is no VAT on installing a heat pump anywhere in the UK, Scotland included, until 31 March 2027. Scottish permitted development rules and building standards apply, and the surveyor checks the unit position and any listed or conservation-area constraints.
Heat pump radiators prices in Inverness
These are guide prices for the Highlands and Islands, installed and including VAT. Your final price is fixed in a written quote after the survey and depends on the heat loss of the house, the radiators that need changing and where the unit goes.
| Work | Guide price |
|---|---|
| Replacement radiator, sized for a heat pump (each, fitted) | £280–£500 |
| Upgrade of about 10 radiators | £2,250–£5,600 |
| Pipework upgrade (e.g. microbore to larger bore) | £1,700–£3,900 |
Installed, inc VAT. The survey lists which radiators need changing.
Short winter days in Inverness and what they mean
On the shortest day Inverness gets only about 6 hours 35 minutes of daylight, with the sun around 9° up at noon. Long Scottish winters mean the heat pump runs for much of the year, so careful sizing, good controls and correctly sized radiators make a real difference.

Heat pump radiator upgrades in Inverness: questions
Do you cover Dingwall as well as Inverness?
Yes. We arrange surveys and installation in Dingwall, which is about 11 miles north-west of Inverness, and across the Highlands and Islands.
What size heat pump does an Inverness home need?
It depends on the heat loss, not the postcode. As a rough guide, a 3 bedroom semi often needs 6–9 kW, but the room-by-room survey sets the actual size for your Inverness home.
Can you service a heat pump in Inverness that someone else installed?
Yes. We arrange servicing and repairs for most air source heat pumps in Inverness, whoever fitted them. Tell us the make and model when you book.
Will new radiators be much bigger than my old ones?
Sometimes, but not always. Swapping a single-panel radiator for a double or triple-panel model of the same height and width can raise output substantially, adding only depth from the wall. Where that is not enough, a longer or taller radiator, or a second radiator in the room, may be needed. We agree sizes and positions with you before anything is ordered.
Do I need new radiators for a heat pump?
Not necessarily: many homes keep most of their radiators and replace only a few. The heat loss survey checks each room against its existing radiator at the planned flow temperature. Rooms with large windows, high ceilings or extensions are the usual candidates for an upgrade, while bedrooms often need no change. Your radiator schedule lists every decision.
