Heat pump radiators for Washington homes

Most homes can run on a heat pump if the system is designed properly, and Washington is no different. The key is matching the heat pump and radiators to the home's heat loss.

Many older houses in Washington still have their original single-panel radiators, so the survey checks each one against the room it heats. Radiator fitting in Washington is scheduled with your heat pump installation so the system is drained only once.

We size each radiator to your room-by-room heat loss so a heat pump can heat your home at a low, efficient flow temperature.

  • Rooms that already feel slow to heat, such as bay-windowed living rooms
  • Rooms with little wall space, where a fan-assisted radiator fits better
  • Homes switching from a gas, oil or LPG boiler to a heat pump

What's included

  • Making good around brackets and pipe routes, with any decorating agreed in your quote
  • Room-by-room heat loss figures for every heated room
  • A radiator schedule showing which radiators stay, which change and their outputs
  • Supply and fitting of new radiators, valves and brackets
  • Pipework checks and any agreed pipe upgrades

We plan radiator upgrades in Washington so floorboards are lifted only where pipework genuinely needs changing.

Grants and rules for heat pumps in England

England

In England the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump (£9,000 if it replaces oil or LPG, from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027), and since 28 April 2026 a valid EPC is no longer needed. The grant is applied for by the MCS-certified installer and shown as a deduction on your Washington quote.

Installing heat pumps is zero-rated for VAT across the UK until 31 March 2027. Since 29 May 2025, permitted development in England allows up to two air source heat pumps on a house, each up to 1.5 m³, with no blanket 1 m boundary rule — the installation must still meet the MCS planning standards, including the noise check. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation-area positions need extra consent, which we check at survey.

Heat pump radiator upgrades in Washington: questions

How long does a heat pump survey take in Washington?

A home survey in Washington usually takes one to two hours. The surveyor measures every heated room, checks windows, walls and radiators, and looks at where the outdoor unit and cylinder can go.

Where would the outdoor unit go on a Washington house?

Usually at the side or rear, on a level base with space around it for airflow and servicing, away from bedroom windows where possible. The surveyor checks positions at your Washington home.

How soon can you survey a home in Washington?

Survey dates depend on how busy installers are in Tyne and Wear. We offer the next available dates when you enquire and confirm them in writing.

Will new radiators be much bigger than my old ones?

Sometimes, but not always. Swapping a single-panel radiator for a double or triple-panel model of the same height and width can raise output substantially, adding only depth from the wall. Where that is not enough, a longer or taller radiator, or a second radiator in the room, may be needed. We agree sizes and positions with you before anything is ordered.

Can radiators be changed without draining the whole system?

Radiator changes normally mean draining the heating system, which is why they are usually done as part of the heat pump installation. The system is then refilled, flushed, treated with inhibitor and balanced. Doing the radiators at the same time avoids draining twice and means the new radiators are commissioned with the heat pump.
