Oil and LPG boiler replacement for Sandhurst homes
In Sandhurst, as anywhere in the UK, the heat pumps that perform well are the ones designed around low flow temperatures and sized from a proper heat loss calculation.
For homes outside Sandhurst reached by a long drive or narrow lane, delivery of the unit and cylinder is planned in advance. If your home near Sandhurst is off the mains gas grid, a heat pump removes the need for oil or LPG deliveries.
Off-gas homes have a lot to plan when switching to a heat pump: the fuel tank, older walls, rural power supplies and higher heat loss.
- Older oil boilers nearing the end of their life
- Owners tired of fuel deliveries and tank maintenance
- Detached houses and bungalows with garden space for the unit
What's included
- Help arranging LPG tank collection with your supplier
- Network operator notification and electrical connection
- MCS certificate and grant application in England and Wales where eligible
- Removal of the oil or LPG boiler and flue
- Oil tank draining and removal or making safe, as set out in your quote
Bungalows and detached houses near Sandhurst running on LPG can move to a heat pump, with the tank collected by the supplier.
Grants and rules for heat pumps in England
In England the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump (£9,000 if it replaces oil or LPG, from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027), and since 28 April 2026 a valid EPC is no longer needed. The grant is applied for by the MCS-certified installer and shown as a deduction on your Sandhurst quote.
There is no VAT on installing a heat pump anywhere in the UK until 31 March 2027. In England most houses can have an air source heat pump under permitted development, provided the unit meets the MCS noise and siting standards; the old 1 m boundary limit was removed on 29 May 2025. We flag listed buildings, flats and sensitive conservation-area positions at survey.
What to budget for replacing an oil or LPG boiler with a heat pump in Sandhurst
These are guide prices for Berkshire, installed and including VAT. Your final price is fixed in a written quote after the survey and depends on the heat loss of the house, the radiators that need changing and where the unit goes.

|---|---|---|---|
| 1–2 bedroom flat or small terrace | 4–5 kW | £10,050–£13,250 | £1,050–£4,250 |

Designing for Sandhurst's winters
On the shortest day Sandhurst gets about 7 hours 51 minutes of daylight, and the winter sun reaches only around 15° above the horizon at noon. Winters this far south are milder than in most of the UK, which helps a heat pump run at low flow temperatures for much of the season.
The steps for replacing an oil or LPG boiler with a heat pump in Sandhurst
- Send your postcode and a few details, or use the guide price tool.
- A surveyor visits your Sandhurst home, measures every room and checks where the outdoor unit can go.
- You receive a heat loss design and a fixed written quote, with any grant shown where it applies.
- Installers fit the unit, cylinder and any radiator changes, typically over 2–4 days on site.
- The system is commissioned, set up with weather compensation and handed over with the paperwork.
Replacing an oil or LPG boiler with a heat pump in Sandhurst: questions
How soon can you survey a home in Sandhurst?
Survey dates depend on how busy installers are in Berkshire. We offer the next available dates when you enquire and confirm them in writing.
What size heat pump does a Sandhurst home need?
It depends on the heat loss, not the postcode. As a rough guide, a 3 bedroom semi often needs 6–9 kW, but the room-by-room survey sets the actual size for your Sandhurst home.
Can you service a heat pump in Sandhurst that someone else installed?
Yes. We arrange servicing and repairs for most air source heat pumps in Sandhurst, whoever fitted them. Tell us the make and model when you book.
How much is the grant for replacing an oil boiler with a heat pump?
In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is £9,000 when an air-to-water heat pump replaces oil or LPG heating, for installations from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. Otherwise the standard £7,500 applies. The installer claims it and deducts it from your quote. Scotland's Home Energy Scotland funding works differently and includes extra for eligible rural homes; Northern Ireland has no dedicated homeowner scheme at present.
Is a heat pump cheaper to run than oil?
It depends on oil prices, your home's insulation, the flow temperature and your electricity tariff, so there is no single answer. At the October to December 2026 price cap, a heat pump with a seasonal efficiency of 3.0 delivers heat for about 8.8p per kWh, and at 3.5 about 7.5p. Compare that with your oil cost per kWh of heat, allowing for your boiler's efficiency; the survey estimate gives a figure for your home.
