Oil and LPG boiler replacement in Liskeard: what to expect
Every property in Liskeard is different, so the design starts from measurements rather than a rule of thumb. That keeps the system the right size and the running costs predictable.
For homes outside Liskeard reached by a long drive or narrow lane, delivery of the unit and cylinder is planned in advance. If your home near Liskeard is off the mains gas grid, a heat pump removes the need for oil or LPG deliveries.
Off-gas homes have a lot to plan when switching to a heat pump: the fuel tank, older walls, rural power supplies and higher heat loss.
- Eligible homes in England and Wales within the higher grant window
- Older oil boilers nearing the end of their life
- Owners tired of fuel deliveries and tank maintenance
What's included
- Oil tank draining and removal or making safe, as set out in your quote
- Network operator notification and electrical connection
- Removal of the oil or LPG boiler and flue
- MCS certificate and grant application in England and Wales where eligible
- Help arranging LPG tank collection with your supplier
Bungalows and detached houses near Liskeard running on LPG can move to a heat pump, with the tank collected by the supplier.
Grants and rules for heat pumps in England
In England the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump (£9,000 if it replaces oil or LPG, from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027), and since 28 April 2026 a valid EPC is no longer needed. The grant is applied for by the MCS-certified installer and shown as a deduction on your Liskeard quote.
Installing heat pumps is zero-rated for VAT across the UK until 31 March 2027. Since 29 May 2025, permitted development in England allows up to two air source heat pumps on a house, each up to 1.5 m³, with no blanket 1 m boundary rule — the installation must still meet the MCS planning standards, including the noise check. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation-area positions need extra consent, which we check at survey.

How long is the heating season in Liskeard?
On the shortest day Liskeard gets about 8 hours 00 minutes of daylight, and the winter sun reaches only around 16° above the horizon at noon. Winters this far south are milder than in most of the UK, which helps a heat pump run at low flow temperatures for much of the season.

Replacing an oil or LPG boiler with a heat pump in Liskeard: questions
How long does installation take in Liskeard?
Most installations take 2–4 days on site. Jobs with several radiator changes or new pipework take longer, and your quote for a Liskeard home states the expected time.
How soon can you survey a home in Liskeard?
Survey dates depend on how busy installers are in Cornwall. We offer the next available dates when you enquire and confirm them in writing.
Do you cover Saltash as well as Liskeard?
Yes. We arrange surveys and installation in Saltash, which is about 11 miles east of Liskeard, and across Cornwall.
Can a heat pump cope with an exposed rural spot?
Yes. Air source heat pumps are designed to keep working well below freezing, and they periodically defrost, giving off a little vapour, which is normal. In exposed locations the installer chooses a sheltered position where possible, raises the unit to clear snow and let defrost water drain, and sizes the system for the local winter design temperature used in the heat loss calculation.
How much is the grant for replacing an oil boiler with a heat pump?
In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is £9,000 when an air-to-water heat pump replaces oil or LPG heating, for installations from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. Otherwise the standard £7,500 applies. The installer claims it and deducts it from your quote. Scotland's Home Energy Scotland funding works differently and includes extra for eligible rural homes; Northern Ireland has no dedicated homeowner scheme at present.
