Oil and LPG boiler replacement in Lutterworth: what to expect
Homes around Lutterworth range from older terraces to newer estates, and each needs a different design. That is why we survey before we quote.
For homes outside Lutterworth reached by a long drive or narrow lane, delivery of the unit and cylinder is planned in advance. Cottages and farmhouses in and around Lutterworth often have solid walls, so the survey looks closely at construction and draughts.
Off-gas homes have a lot to plan when switching to a heat pump: the fuel tank, older walls, rural power supplies and higher heat loss.
- Rural and village homes off the mains gas grid
- Older oil boilers nearing the end of their life
- Owners tired of fuel deliveries and tank maintenance
What's included
- Removal of the oil or LPG boiler and flue
- Oil tank draining and removal or making safe, as set out in your quote
- MCS certificate and grant application in England and Wales where eligible
- Free survey with a detailed heat loss calculation for older construction
- Outdoor unit, heat pump cylinder, controls and radiator changes
If your home near Lutterworth is off the mains gas grid, a heat pump removes the need for oil or LPG deliveries.
Grants and rules for heat pumps in England
In England the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump (£9,000 if it replaces oil or LPG, from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027), and since 28 April 2026 a valid EPC is no longer needed. The grant is applied for by the MCS-certified installer and shown as a deduction on your Lutterworth quote.
Installing heat pumps is zero-rated for VAT across the UK until 31 March 2027. Since 29 May 2025, permitted development in England allows up to two air source heat pumps on a house, each up to 1.5 m³, with no blanket 1 m boundary rule — the installation must still meet the MCS planning standards, including the noise check. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation-area positions need extra consent, which we check at survey.

Short winter days in Lutterworth and what they mean
Lutterworth has about 7 hours 40 minutes of daylight at midwinter and 16 hours 49 minutes at midsummer. That swing matters if you pair a heat pump with solar panels: summer generation can cover much of the hot water, winter generation far less.
How installation works in Lutterworth
- Send your postcode and a few details, or use the guide price tool.
- A surveyor visits your Lutterworth home, measures every room and checks where the outdoor unit can go.
- You receive a heat loss design and a fixed written quote, with any grant shown where it applies.

Replacing an oil or LPG boiler with a heat pump in Lutterworth: questions
What size heat pump does a Lutterworth home need?
It depends on the heat loss, not the postcode. As a rough guide, a 3 bedroom semi often needs 6–9 kW, but the room-by-room survey sets the actual size for your Lutterworth home.
Do you cover Rugby as well as Lutterworth?
Yes. We arrange surveys and installation in Rugby, which is about 6 miles south-west of Lutterworth, and across Leicestershire.
How long does installation take in Lutterworth?
Most installations take 2–4 days on site. Jobs with several radiator changes or new pipework take longer, and your quote for a Lutterworth home states the expected time.
How much is the grant for replacing an oil boiler with a heat pump?
In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is £9,000 when an air-to-water heat pump replaces oil or LPG heating, for installations from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. Otherwise the standard £7,500 applies. The installer claims it and deducts it from your quote. Scotland's Home Energy Scotland funding works differently and includes extra for eligible rural homes; Northern Ireland has no dedicated homeowner scheme at present.
Can a heat pump cope with an exposed rural spot?
Yes. Air source heat pumps are designed to keep working well below freezing, and they periodically defrost, giving off a little vapour, which is normal. In exposed locations the installer chooses a sheltered position where possible, raises the unit to clear snow and let defrost water drain, and sizes the system for the local winter design temperature used in the heat loss calculation.
