Air source heat pump installation for Stanley homes
Most homes can run on a heat pump if the system is designed properly, and Stanley is no different. The key is matching the heat pump and radiators to the home's heat loss.
In Stanley, cylinder space is planned with you, often in an airing cupboard, utility room or garage. Many homes in Stanley have a side passage or rear garden with room for an outdoor unit, and the survey checks airflow and distance from neighbouring windows.
We survey your home, design a heat pump system around its real heat loss, and manage the installation from the first visit to the MCS certificate.
- Homes replacing a gas, oil, LPG or electric heating system
- Owners who want one contract covering design, fitting and paperwork
- Houses with reasonable insulation, or a plan to improve it
What's included
- Removal of the old boiler or heaters
- System design, unit sizing and a written quote
- Radiator and pipework changes where the design needs them
- MCS registration and certificate, plus network operator notification
- Commissioning, handover and a walk-through of the controls
Terraced streets in Stanley often mean a compact unit position at the rear, so siting and sound levels are checked carefully.
Grants and rules for heat pumps in England
In England the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump (£9,000 if it replaces oil or LPG, from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027), and since 28 April 2026 a valid EPC is no longer needed. The grant is applied for by the MCS-certified installer and shown as a deduction on your Stanley quote.
Installing heat pumps is zero-rated for VAT across the UK until 31 March 2027. Since 29 May 2025, permitted development in England allows up to two air source heat pumps on a house, each up to 1.5 m³, with no blanket 1 m boundary rule — the installation must still meet the MCS planning standards, including the noise check. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation-area positions need extra consent, which we check at survey.

Designing for Stanley's winters
Stanley sees roughly 7 hours 12 minutes of daylight in December and 17 hours 21 minutes in June. With a longer heating season than the south, the gains from low flow temperatures and good controls add up over the year.

Air source heat pump installation in Stanley: questions
How soon can you survey a home in Stanley?
Survey dates depend on how busy installers are in County Durham. We offer the next available dates when you enquire and confirm them in writing.
Do I need new radiators for a heat pump in Stanley?
Often some, not all. Heat pumps run best at lower water temperatures, so rooms with small radiators may need larger ones. The survey of your Stanley home gives a room-by-room list.
Where would the outdoor unit go on a Stanley house?
Usually at the side or rear, on a level base with space around it for airflow and servicing, away from bedroom windows where possible. The surveyor checks positions at your Stanley home.
What grants can I get for a heat pump?
It depends on where you live. In England and Wales the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water heat pump, which the installer claims and deducts from your quote. In Scotland, Home Energy Scotland offers a grant of up to £7,500, with up to £1,500 more for eligible rural and island homes, but you need a written funding offer before work starts. Northern Ireland has no dedicated homeowner heat pump grant at present.
Do I need new radiators for a heat pump?
Not always; many homes keep most of their radiators and change only a few. Because a heat pump runs at a lower water temperature than a boiler, each radiator gives out less heat, so the survey checks every room against its heat loss. Rooms where the existing radiator falls short get a larger one, with a guide price of £250–£450 each, installed and including VAT.
