Before you book: heat loss surveys in Melksham
Every property in Melksham is different, so the design starts from measurements rather than a rule of thumb. That keeps the system the right size and the running costs predictable.
For Melksham homes with extensions or loft conversions, each part of the house is assessed on its own construction. The survey in Melksham includes a check of where the outdoor unit could sit and how its sound would reach neighbours.
Every heat pump we quote starts with a room-by-room heat loss survey, free with installation enquiries and also available as a stand-alone report.
- Self-builders and architects who need emitter and system sizes early
- Landlords comparing properties before deciding where to switch first
- Anyone getting a heat pump quote, as the first step
What's included
- Electrical supply and network operator notes
- Recommended heat pump size and design flow temperature
- Room-by-room heat loss calculation using the MCS method
- Outdoor unit siting options and noise check
- Hot water cylinder sizing for your household
Design outdoor temperatures for Melksham and the wider Wiltshire come from local cold-weather data, not a national average.
Grants and rules for heat pumps in England
In England the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump (£9,000 if it replaces oil or LPG, from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027), and since 28 April 2026 a valid EPC is no longer needed. The grant is applied for by the MCS-certified installer and shown as a deduction on your Melksham quote.
There is no VAT on installing a heat pump anywhere in the UK until 31 March 2027. In England most houses can have an air source heat pump under permitted development, provided the unit meets the MCS noise and siting standards; the old 1 m boundary limit was removed on 29 May 2025. We flag listed buildings, flats and sensitive conservation-area positions at survey.
Guide prices for heat loss surveys in Melksham
Guide prices for Melksham and the rest of Wiltshire are shown below, installed and inc VAT. We publish ranges rather than a single figure because design details move the price, and the written quote after survey fixes it.

| Stand-alone heat loss survey and report | £150–£400 |
Inc VAT. A stand-alone report is for homeowners who want the design without an installation quote.

Melksham sees roughly 7 hours 51 minutes of daylight in late December against 16 hours 37 minutes in June. Milder southern winters suit heat pumps well, though the system is still sized for a cold snap rather than an average day.

Heat loss surveys in Melksham: questions
How long does installation take in Melksham?
Most installations take 2–4 days on site. Jobs with several radiator changes or new pipework take longer, and your quote for a Melksham home states the expected time.
How long does a heat pump survey take in Melksham?
A home survey in Melksham usually takes one to two hours. The surveyor measures every heated room, checks windows, walls and radiators, and looks at where the outdoor unit and cylinder can go.
How soon can you survey a home in Melksham?
Survey dates depend on how busy installers are in Wiltshire. We offer the next available dates when you enquire and confirm them in writing.
Is the heat loss survey free?
Yes, for installation enquiries the home survey and heat loss calculation are free, and the results form the basis of your written quote. If you only want the calculation and report, for example for building plans or comparing quotes, a stand-alone heat loss survey has a guide price of £150–£400, including VAT. We confirm which applies when you book.
Can I use the heat loss report to get other quotes?
Yes. A stand-alone heat loss report is yours to use, including sharing it with other installers so their quotes are based on the same figures. Comparing quotes like for like makes it easier to see differences in equipment, radiator upgrades and workmanship terms. The report states the assumptions used wherever construction could not be confirmed.
