Heat pump grants in Cardiff: what to expect
Every property in Cardiff is different, so the design starts from measurements rather than a rule of thumb. That keeps the system the right size and the running costs predictable.
For landlords with property in Cardiff, we explain the funding position for each home before quoting. Installation dates in Cardiff are fixed around any funding confirmation, so work does not start too early.
Heat pump funding depends on which UK nation you live in, so we confirm what applies to your home and handle the grant steps alongside your quote.
- Homes in England and Wales on oil or LPG, where a higher grant applies between set dates
- Homeowners in England and Wales replacing gas, oil, LPG or electric heating
- Anyone unsure which scheme applies and wanting it checked before committing
What's included
- Installation scheduled around your grant confirmation or funding offer
- Written quote showing the full price and any grant deduction
- Eligibility check for the scheme that covers your nation
- Boiler Upgrade Scheme application made by the MCS-certified installer (England and Wales)
- MCS certificate and handover documents after installation
Homeowners in Cardiff get a clear written quote showing the full price and any funding that applies.
Grants and rules for heat pumps in Wales
In Wales the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump (£9,000 if it replaces oil or LPG, from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027; £2,500 for air-to-air). The MCS-certified installer named in your quote applies to Ofgem for you, and the grant comes off your Cardiff quote.
Installing heat pumps is zero-rated for VAT across the UK until 31 March 2027. Wales has its own permitted development rules for air source heat pumps, so we check what applies to your property, including listed building and conservation-area constraints, at the survey.

Winter daylight and heating in Cardiff
Cardiff sees roughly 7 hours 50 minutes of daylight in late December against 16 hours 38 minutes in June. Milder southern winters suit heat pumps well, though the system is still sized for a cold snap rather than an average day.
What happens after you enquire in Cardiff?

Heat pump grants in Cardiff: questions
How soon can you survey a home in Cardiff?
Survey dates depend on how busy installers are in South Glamorgan. We offer the next available dates when you enquire and confirm them in writing.
Do you cover Penarth as well as Cardiff?
Yes. We arrange surveys and installation in Penarth, which is about 3 miles south of Cardiff, and across South Glamorgan.
How long does installation take in Cardiff?
Most installations take 2–4 days on site. Jobs with several radiator changes or new pipework take longer, and your quote for a Cardiff home states the expected time.
How much is the heat pump grant?
It depends on where you live. In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays £7,500 towards an air-to-water heat pump, or £9,000 when replacing oil or LPG heating for installations from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. In Scotland, Home Energy Scotland offers up to £7,500, plus a rural uplift and an optional loan. Northern Ireland has no dedicated grant at present.
Do I need an EPC for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
No longer. Since 28 April 2026, a valid EPC is not required for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme in England and Wales. The system must still meet the home's full heating and hot water needs, which the room-by-room heat loss calculation confirms. The other eligibility rules, such as owning the property, still apply.
