Heat pump radiators for Sidmouth homes
Homes around Sidmouth range from older terraces to newer estates, and each needs a different design. That is why we survey before we quote.
For period homes in Sidmouth and across Devon, column radiators can keep the character of a room while giving enough heat at low temperatures. Radiator fitting in Sidmouth is scheduled with your heat pump installation so the system is drained only once.
We size each radiator to your room-by-room heat loss so a heat pump can heat your home at a low, efficient flow temperature.
- Rooms with little wall space, where a fan-assisted radiator fits better
- Homeowners who want the lowest practical flow temperature for efficiency
- Extensions and loft conversions with large areas of glazing
What's included
- Pipework checks and any agreed pipe upgrades
- Balancing every radiator so each room heats evenly
- A radiator schedule showing which radiators stay, which change and their outputs
- Supply and fitting of new radiators, valves and brackets
- Draining, refilling, cleaning and inhibitor treatment of the heating system
We plan radiator upgrades in Sidmouth so floorboards are lifted only where pipework genuinely needs changing.
Grants and rules for heat pumps in England
In England the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump (£9,000 if it replaces oil or LPG, from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027), and since 28 April 2026 a valid EPC is no longer needed. The grant is applied for by the MCS-certified installer and shown as a deduction on your Sidmouth quote.
Installing heat pumps is zero-rated for VAT across the UK until 31 March 2027. Since 29 May 2025, permitted development in England allows up to two air source heat pumps on a house, each up to 1.5 m³, with no blanket 1 m boundary rule — the installation must still meet the MCS planning standards, including the noise check. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation-area positions need extra consent, which we check at survey.
Guide prices for heat pump radiator upgrades in Sidmouth
Guide prices for Sidmouth and the rest of Devon are shown below, installed and inc VAT. We publish ranges rather than a single figure because design details move the price, and the written quote after survey fixes it.
| Work | Guide price |
|---|---|
| Replacement radiator, sized for a heat pump (each, fitted) | £250–£450 |
| Upgrade of about 10 radiators | £2,000–£5,050 |
| Pipework upgrade (e.g. microbore to larger bore) | £1,500–£3,550 |
Installed, inc VAT. The survey lists which radiators need changing.
Winter daylight and heating in Sidmouth
On the shortest day Sidmouth gets about 7 hours 58 minutes of daylight, and the winter sun reaches only around 16° above the horizon at noon. Winters this far south are milder than in most of the UK, which helps a heat pump run at low flow temperatures for much of the season.
From survey to switch-on in Sidmouth
- Send your postcode and a few details, or use the guide price tool.
- A surveyor visits your Sidmouth home, measures every room and checks where the outdoor unit can go.
- You receive a heat loss design and a fixed written quote, with any grant shown where it applies.
- Installers fit the unit, cylinder and any radiator changes, typically over 2–4 days on site.
- The system is commissioned, set up with weather compensation and handed over with the paperwork.
Heat pump radiator upgrades in Sidmouth: questions
Where would the outdoor unit go on a Sidmouth house?
Usually at the side or rear, on a level base with space around it for airflow and servicing, away from bedroom windows where possible. The surveyor checks positions at your Sidmouth home.
Do you cover Honiton as well as Sidmouth?
Yes. We arrange surveys and installation in Honiton, which is about 8 miles north of Sidmouth, and across Devon.
How soon can you survey a home in Sidmouth?
Survey dates depend on how busy installers are in Devon. We offer the next available dates when you enquire and confirm them in writing.
Can I keep my radiators and just run the heat pump hotter?
You can, but it usually costs more to run. Every extra degree of flow temperature reduces a heat pump's efficiency, so a system designed at 55°C uses noticeably more electricity than one at 45°C for the same heat. A few well-chosen radiator upgrades often let the whole house run cooler, which is the better long-term trade.
Will new radiators be much bigger than my old ones?
Sometimes, but not always. Swapping a single-panel radiator for a double or triple-panel model of the same height and width can raise output substantially, adding only depth from the wall. Where that is not enough, a longer or taller radiator, or a second radiator in the room, may be needed. We agree sizes and positions with you before anything is ordered.
