What to know about heat pump servicing in Saltcoats
A heat pump that is serviced and set up properly keeps running efficiently for many years. Many heat pump faults trace back to settings, low pressure or a worn part rather than the heat pump itself, and those can usually be put right.
We service heat pumps in Saltcoats whoever installed them, including monobloc and split systems. Homes in Saltcoats and across Ayrshire can book servicing at a time of year that suits them, ideally before winter.
An annual service keeps a heat pump running efficiently, catches small faults early and is often a condition of the manufacturer's warranty.
- Systems where the manufacturer's warranty requires annual servicing
- Homes where running costs have crept up or rooms feel cooler than before
- Heat pumps a year or more past installation
What's included
- A dated service record for your warranty and property files
- Glycol or antifreeze protection test where fitted
- Expansion vessel, pressure relief and water quality checks
- Magnetic filter and strainer clean, with system pressure topped up
- Refrigerant circuit checks on split systems by an F-gas certified engineer
Heat pumps in Saltcoats that sit near trees or hedges often need their outdoor coil cleared of leaves at the annual service.
Grants and rules for heat pumps in Scotland
In Scotland, heat pump funding comes through Home Energy Scotland rather than the Boiler Upgrade Scheme: a grant of up to £7,500 (up to £1,500 extra for eligible rural and island homes) and an optional interest-free loan of up to £7,500. For a Saltcoats home, apply and receive the written offer before the installation date is fixed.

Heat pump servicing in Saltcoats: questions
How much does a visit cost in Saltcoats?
The rate for a service or fault-finding visit is agreed before anyone attends. Any repair is priced in writing before parts are ordered, so you decide before work goes ahead.
How often should a heat pump in Saltcoats be serviced?
Once a year is the usual recommendation, and many manufacturers make annual servicing a condition of the warranty. Check your warranty terms for the exact requirement.
What should I check before booking a visit in Saltcoats?
Note any error code on the controller, check the system pressure gauge if you have one, and make sure the outdoor unit is clear of leaves or snow. Photos of the unit and controller help.
What does a heat pump service not include?
A service covers inspection, cleaning, testing and adjustment. It does not include replacement parts, major repairs, system flushing or radiator changes, which are quoted separately if needed. If the engineer finds a fault, they explain what it is, what it would cost to fix and whether it needs doing now or can wait.
How much does a heat pump service cost?
An annual heat pump service has a guide price of £120–£250, including VAT. Where your price sits depends on the type of system, whether it is a split system needing refrigerant checks and whether an unvented cylinder is included. Any parts or repairs found during the service are explained and priced before any work goes ahead.
