Oil and LPG boiler replacement for Wallingford homes

Homes around Wallingford range from older terraces to newer estates, and each needs a different design. That is why we survey before we quote.

Cottages and farmhouses in and around Wallingford often have solid walls, so the survey looks closely at construction and draughts. Bungalows and detached houses near Wallingford running on LPG can move to a heat pump, with the tank collected by the supplier.

Off-gas homes have a lot to plan when switching to a heat pump: the fuel tank, older walls, rural power supplies and higher heat loss.

  • Detached houses and bungalows with garden space for the unit
  • Older oil boilers nearing the end of their life
  • Eligible homes in England and Wales within the higher grant window

What's included

  • Help arranging LPG tank collection with your supplier
  • Removal of the oil or LPG boiler and flue
  • Free survey with a detailed heat loss calculation for older construction
  • Oil tank draining and removal or making safe, as set out in your quote
  • Network operator notification and electrical connection

For homes outside Wallingford reached by a long drive or narrow lane, delivery of the unit and cylinder is planned in advance.

Grants and rules for heat pumps in England

England

Homes in Wallingford can use the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which takes £7,500 off the cost of an air source heat pump when it replaces fossil-fuel or electric heating. Replacing oil or LPG heating qualifies for £9,000 for installations from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027, and air-to-air systems for £2,500. The MCS-certified installer named in your quote applies for the grant and deducts it from the price.

Installing heat pumps is zero-rated for VAT across the UK until 31 March 2027. Since 29 May 2025, permitted development in England allows up to two air source heat pumps on a house, each up to 1.5 m³, with no blanket 1 m boundary rule — the installation must still meet the MCS planning standards, including the noise check. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation-area positions need extra consent, which we check at survey.

51.60°NLatitude of Wallingford

On the shortest day Wallingford gets about 7 hours 49 minutes of daylight, and the winter sun reaches only around 15° above the horizon at noon. Winters this far south are milder than in most of the UK, which helps a heat pump run at low flow temperatures for much of the season.

How installation works in Wallingford

  1. Send your postcode and a few details, or use the guide price tool.
  2. A surveyor visits your Wallingford home, measures every room and checks where the outdoor unit can go.
  3. You receive a heat loss design and a fixed written quote, with any grant shown where it applies.
  4. Installers fit the unit, cylinder and any radiator changes, typically over 2–4 days on site.
  5. The system is commissioned, set up with weather compensation and handed over with the paperwork.

Replacing an oil or LPG boiler with a heat pump in Wallingford: questions

How long does a heat pump survey take in Wallingford?

A home survey in Wallingford usually takes one to two hours. The surveyor measures every heated room, checks windows, walls and radiators, and looks at where the outdoor unit and cylinder can go.

How soon can you survey a home in Wallingford?

Survey dates depend on how busy installers are in Oxfordshire. We offer the next available dates when you enquire and confirm them in writing.

Do I need new radiators for a heat pump in Wallingford?

Often some, not all. Heat pumps run best at lower water temperatures, so rooms with small radiators may need larger ones. The survey of your Wallingford home gives a room-by-room list.

How much is the grant for replacing an oil boiler with a heat pump?

In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is £9,000 when an air-to-water heat pump replaces oil or LPG heating, for installations from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. Otherwise the standard £7,500 applies. The installer claims it and deducts it from your quote. Scotland's Home Energy Scotland funding works differently and includes extra for eligible rural homes; Northern Ireland has no dedicated homeowner scheme at present.

What happens with a leased LPG tank?

Leased LPG tanks belong to the supplier, so the supplier arranges collection. Check your contract for notice periods and any charges before you fix a date. We time the switchover so you are not left without heating, and once the heat pump is commissioned the supplier can empty and remove the tank. Bottled LPG cylinders are simply returned.
