Grants and rules for heat pumps in Northern Ireland
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers England and Wales only, and there is currently no dedicated heat pump grant for homeowners in Northern Ireland. Our quote for a Maghera home is therefore shown without a grant deduction; if support becomes available we will tell you how it applies.
Installing heat pumps has been zero-rated for VAT in Northern Ireland since 1 May 2023, in line with the rest of the UK, until 31 March 2027. Northern Ireland has its own permitted development rules and building regulations, and we confirm what applies to your Maghera property at survey.

Designing for Maghera's winters
On the shortest day Maghera gets only about 7 hours 12 minutes of daylight and the noon sun sits around 12° above the horizon. Northern winters tend to be longer, so a well-designed, efficient system matters more here because it runs for more of the year.
Heat pumps in Maghera: questions
Do you cover Magherafelt as well as Maghera?
Yes. We arrange surveys and installation in Magherafelt, which is about 7 miles south-east of Maghera, and across County Londonderry.
How long does a heat pump survey take in Maghera?
A home survey in Maghera usually takes one to two hours. The surveyor measures every heated room, checks windows, walls and radiators, and looks at where the outdoor unit and cylinder can go.
Can you service a heat pump in Maghera that someone else installed?
Yes. We arrange servicing and repairs for most air source heat pumps in Maghera, whoever fitted them. Tell us the make and model when you book.
Where would the outdoor unit go on a Maghera house?
Usually at the side or rear, on a level base with space around it for airflow and servicing, away from bedroom windows where possible. The surveyor checks positions at your Maghera home.
