Heat pump servicing in the Highlands and Islands

Switching to a heat pump in the Highlands and Islands? Start with a guide price, then a surveyor measures your home and the written quote fixes the price.

We service systems installed through us and systems fitted by other companies, including monobloc and split units. If your heat pump was installed by someone else, tell us the make, model and age when you book so the engineer brings the right parts and information. Refrigerant work on split systems must be done by an F-gas certified engineer.

Service visits in the Highlands and Islands include unvented cylinder safety checks alongside the heat pump itself. If a heat pump in the Highlands and Islands has not been serviced for a while, the first visit includes a full check of settings and pressures. Homes in the Highlands and Islands and across the Highlands and Islands can book servicing at a time of year that suits them, ideally before winter.

Who it suits

  • Systems where the manufacturer's warranty requires annual servicing
  • Heat pumps installed by another company that need a new servicing arrangement
  • Heat pumps a year or more past installation
  • Landlords who need dated service records for each property

Heat pump servicing questions

What does a heat pump service not include?

A service covers inspection, cleaning, testing and adjustment. It does not include replacement parts, major repairs, system flushing or radiator changes, which are quoted separately if needed. If the engineer finds a fault, they explain what it is, what it would cost to fix and whether it needs doing now or can wait.

Can you service a split system?

Yes. Split systems have refrigerant pipes running between the outdoor unit and an indoor unit, and checks on that refrigerant circuit must be done by an F-gas certified engineer. We arrange the service so a suitably certified engineer attends. The water side, controls and cylinder are checked in the same visit, just as on a monobloc system.

How often should a heat pump be serviced?

Once a year is the usual recommendation for air source heat pumps, and many manufacturers require it as a warranty condition. An annual visit cleans filters and strainers, checks pressures and controls, and tests the unvented cylinder's safety devices. If you notice a drop in performance, unusual noises or repeated error codes between services, arrange a visit sooner.

How much does a heat pump service cost?

An annual heat pump service has a guide price of £120–£250, including VAT. Where your price sits depends on the type of system, whether it is a split system needing refrigerant checks and whether an unvented cylinder is included. Any parts or repairs found during the service are explained and priced before any work goes ahead.
